Where Is the Outrage Over Masks in Our Oceans?
Why are none of the Climate Change champions crying out over all of the disposable masks in our oceans and landfills?
In an age of environmental “Wokeness” and facing the existential threat of Climate Change, or so we would be led to believe, no one seems to mind that an estimated 1.6 billion disposable face masks ended up in our oceans in 2020. Are we to believe that this is just a harmless addition to the largest ecosystem on the planet?
Where Is the Outcry?
Where are all of the environmental talking heads, where did they go? I still see the Ted Talks on YouTube, but I don’t see anyone on the news, at least not talking about the disposable masks. You can’t go anywhere today without seeing surgical masks lying on the ground, cast away like old tissue. The difference between old tissue and a surgical mask is that the tissue will bio-degrade in weeks, whereas the mask will take centuries.
Two years ago the environment was the hot ticket item. Now in the face of a global pandemic that seems to almost exclusively target humans who are elderly or immune-compromised. So it basically is another form of the seasonal flu. I know, I get it, it has killed way more people than the flu does, but has it really?
